Overview of Primary 4 Programmes
MASTER KEY STRATEGIES AND SKILLS
Students are guided to apply exam techniques with greater precision. They build confidence in time management, structured answering, and question analysis across comprehension, grammar, and writing tasks. Regular reviews and personalised feedback by teachers ensure continuous progress and subject mastery.
READ CRITICALLY, WRITE CREATIVELY
Students deepen their reading comprehension by exploring a wider range of texts and genres. They refine their ability to analyse key ideas, infer meaning, and interpret characters’ thoughts and motivations. In writing, students are guided to emulate effective techniques used by real authors, such as strong characterisation, dialogue, and paragraphing to craft vivid and well-structured stories of their own.
BECOME AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR
Through class discussions, presentations and oral practices, students learn to express their thoughts clearly and confidently. They practice active listening, build coherence in their spoken responses, and develop the ability to reflect on personal experiences and perspectives during oral communication tasks.

CULTIVATE A CURIOUS MIND
Students are exposed to real-world themes such as transport, discoveries, and inventions to foster curiosity and meaningful connections in language learning. These themes serve as springboards for deeper thinking and expression, encouraging students to question, explore, and respond to the world around them.

CLOSE COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS
Parents receive timely updates on their child’s learning journey through Learning Snapshots and teacher feedback each term. These insights highlight areas of key strengths, areas for improvement, and personalised recommendations to support your child's continued development both in and out of the classroom.

- Practise sentence synthesis using active and passive voice, adverbial, prepositional and participial phrases, and a range of structures to express ideas with clarity and variety.
- Apply Grammar Rules Accurately
- Strengthen the ability to apply grammar knowledge in context by analysing sentence structure, identifying grammatical clues, and avoiding common errors in both multiple-choice questions and open-ended tasks.
- Reinforce Learning Through Targeted Practice and Reviews
- Reinforce key grammar rules through spiral reviews, application tasks, and timely teacher feedback that supports long-term retention and confident usage.
- Speak with Clarity and Confidence
- Engage in thoughtful discussions and class presentations on meaningful topics such as personal milestones in one’s childhood and friendships. Students develop poise and clarity in expressing their ideas.
- Strengthen Active Listening and Interaction Skills
- Practise listening attentively, interpreting others’ points of view, and responding appropriately to build respectful and constructive dialogue.
- Deliver Organised and Impactful Responses
- Structure oral responses with logical flow, supported by explanation and personal experiences. Students learn to vary tone and emphasis to match purpose and audience.
- Stimulus-Based Conversation and Reading Aloud
- Build confidence in oral exams through regular practice in stimulus-based conversation, and develop fluency, expression and pronunciation in reading aloud tasks.
What goes on in our English programmes?
Lessons are structured to help students investigate the craft of writing with examples from notable children’s literature (e.g. How did the writer make the character memorable? What were some of the writing techniques he used? How can we emulate them?)
Students are encouraged to learn grammar through a mix of implicit and explicit instruction (e.g. noticing patterns in different sentences vs listing of grammar rules)
Students hone their reading skills with integrated phonics components that include catchy songs / rhymes to stimulate their interest
Students engage in a wide range of themes (e.g. biodiversity, young game changers) throughout the year to ignite their curiosity in the world around us
“Develop Your Voice” modules encourage students to be active listeners and articulate speakers
ACHIEVE CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING
Children learn through the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach by recalling and building on pre-existing knowledge. During the programme, your child will explore and apply concepts beyond the syllabus.

UNLEASH CURIOSITY IN MATHS
Research shows that curious children attain better academic outcomes. Children will explore mathematical concepts through open-ended activities and develop a system of generating results from exploration of ideas and concepts. Our Maths tuition programme also extends problem solving through investigation.
COMPUTE WITH EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY
Children will be able to confidently apply knowledge and address learning needs through weekly exercises and assessments. Each child will be exposed to a wide range of computation exercises and challenging tasks.
ACHIEVE HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PROBLEM SOLVING
Our Maths programmes guide students in mastering heuristic strategies for problem sums, identify task requirements by exploring similar concepts in different problems, and explore different solutions to the same problem.
ARTICULATE CONFIDENTLY
Children will learn to identify and correct errors, be confident in providing justification for answers and question assumptions made in problem solving. The Eton Academy encourages children to cultivate an open mind towards learning from and sharing with peers.

CLOSE COMMUNICATION WITH TEACHERS & PARENTS
Receive regular updates about class performance from our teachers. Learning snapshots are sent termly to see areas of strength and improvement and teachers’ recommendations.

What goes on in our Mathematics programmes?
Lessons are structured around weekly investigative problems to help students draw connections to real-life experiences e.g. how much water do we consume in a day? How can we represent it in different measurement units?
Students learn how to apply heuristics to solve a variety of math problem sums
Lessons use manipulatives, hands-on activities and class projects to give students a fun learning experience
Interactive activities and quizzes are used to engage students and check for understanding
Weekly stretch activities are included to help students deepen their understanding of each mathematical concept
Reviews of the prior week’s content are conducted at the start of each lesson to assess students’ readiness and consolidate students’ learning

FUN, HANDS-ON SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS
From exploring how light travels to investigating the effects of heat, our hands-on activities make science come alive! Students apply what they have learnt through hands-on experiments that develop their observational skills, reinforce key concepts and spark curiosity about how things work in the real world.

DEVELOP SCIENCE LITERACY
At Primary 4, our students strengthen their ability to think and communicate like young scientists. They learn to identify variables, analyse results and explain how the experimental results supports conclusions. Through guided discussions, they practise organising and presenting their scientific ideas using appropriate terminology and logical reasoning.

SHARPEN ANSWERING TECHNIQUES
Our teachers help to refine students’ ability to tackle open-ended questions with clarity and precision. The students will practise identifying key information in questions, using keywords and comparison phrases, and structuring full answers that demonstrate understanding. Regular topical reviews and feedback sessions build confidence and exam readiness.

NURTURE CURIOSITY AND INQUISITIVENESS
Students are encouraged to explore science beyond the classroom by questioning how and why things happen. Through inquiry-based learning and scenario-based tasks, they build confidence in exploring cause-and-effect relationships and learn to connect concepts to everyday life, deepening their scientific thinking.
